Why check this
WordPress powers a huge share of the web. Knowing it is WordPress tells you whether to talk plugins, themes or caching.
What this is
WordPress is the PHP CMS behind a large share of company sites, publishers and WooCommerce stores. Its performance ceiling is set by themes, plugins and hosting rather than by the core, so confirming it tells you which layer the fixes belong to.
How to tell from a public page
- Paths such as /wp-content/, /wp-includes/ and /wp-json/ appear in HTML, CSS or script URLs.
- A <meta name="generator" content="WordPress …"> tag is often left in the head.
- Uploaded media is served from /wp-content/uploads/ with dated folder names.
- RSS links, wp-emoji or wp-block-library assets usually show up in the source.
How to read the result
Structural paths or the generator tag mean confirmed. A single mention of WordPress in body copy or a comment widget is only suspected — plenty of sites write about a CMS they no longer run. Misses are common on headless setups, where the front end is static and /wp-json/ sits behind a proxy on another hostname. Common false positive: documentation pages and job ads naming the platform.
What to do next
Inventory autoloaded plugins, theme CSS weight and upload dimensions before debating a re-platform; those three usually explain the score. Stores running WooCommerce deserve a separate look at cart and checkout scripts. If the front end is React-based, continue into WooCommerce detector; weighted LCP, image, SEO and accessibility scores are on run the full performance / images / SEO / accessibility audit on the home page.

FAQ
How is WordPress detected?
From structural signatures in the public HTML and response headers (domains, paths, attributes, scripts). Every verdict lists how many times each pattern matched — nothing is guessed.
Can the result be wrong?
If only a bare brand keyword matches without structural evidence, we label it \u201clikely\u201d instead of \u201cconfirmed\u201d — we would rather under-report than cry wolf.
Do you save the URLs I check?
No. The audit runs inside the request and the URL you paste is not written to storage. There are no third-party tracking scripts on the page either, so no log of who checked what exists. Copy the result yourself if you want a record.
Can a website hide what it is built with?
Partly, but rarely completely. The HTML sent to your browser, the response headers, script paths and asset structure have to be exposed to work, so there is always something readable. Server-side code, build config and private APIs stay invisible. That is why this tool reports the evidence it found rather than claiming a full picture. No match does not mean the technology is absent.
